NGC 1078 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E / S0 in the constellation Cetus south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 392 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 100,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 1064 and NGC 1071 .
The property was discovered by Frank Muller in 1886 .
