IC 259 is a lens-shaped galaxy of the Hubble type SB0 / a in the constellation Perseus in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 250 million light years from the Milky Way and about 50,000 light years across. Together with IC 258 , it forms the pair of galaxies KPG 79 .
The galaxies NGC 1086 and NGC 1106 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on September 3, 1891 by Sherburne Wesley Burnham .
