IC 279 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sc in the constellation Aries on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 424 million light years from the Milky Way and about 50,000 light years in diameter.

The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on December 29, 1893 .
