IC 278 is an elliptical galaxy of the Hubble type E0 in the constellation Perseus in the southern sky . It is an estimated 224 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 70,000 light years in diameter.
The object was discovered on September 12, 1890 by Sherburne Wesley Burnham .
