IC 258 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type SB0 / a in the constellation Perseus in the northern sky . It is an estimated 278 million light years from the Milky Way and about 80,000 light years across. Together with IC 259 , it forms the pair of galaxies KPG 79 . 
The galaxies NGC 1086 and NGC 1106 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on September 3, 1891 by the American astronomer Sherburne Wesley Burnham .
