IC 272 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sc in the constellation Eridanus at the southern sky . It is an estimated 386 million light years from the Milky Way and about 115,000 light years in diameter.

In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 1158 , IC 268 , IC 269 , IC 270 .

The Type Ia supernova candidate NAME ATLAS 16cjv is observed here.

The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on December 1, 1891 .
