IC 244 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sc in the constellation Cetus south of the celestial equator . It is an estimated 303 million light years from the Milky Way and about 60,000 light years in diameter.
The galaxies NGC 1009 , NGC 1020 , NGC 1021 , IC 246 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on January 11, 1894 .
