IC 227 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E4 in the constellation Triangulum at the northern sky . It is estimated to be 464 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 175,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky is the galaxy IC 226 .
The object was discovered by Rudolf Spitaler on December 24, 1891 .
