IC 230 is a dwarf galaxy in the constellation Whale south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 221 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 25,000 light years in diameter .
The galaxies NGC 942 , NGC 943 , NGC 945 , NGC 950 are in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Sherburne Wesley Burnham on October 8, 1891 .
