IC 219 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E4 in the constellation Cetus south of the celestial equator . It is an estimated 226 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 65,000 light-years across.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 881 and NGC 883 .
The Type Ia supernova SN 2005dm was observed here.
The object was discovered on November 17, 1887 by Frank Muller .
