IC 206 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 in the constellation Whale south of the celestial equator . It is around 217 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 65,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 830 , NGC 842 , IC 207 , IC 209 .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on January 26, 1892 .
