IC 225 is an elliptical dwarf galaxy with extensive star formation areas of the Hubble type E1 in the constellation Whale south of the celestial equator . It is an estimated 69 million light years from the Milky Way and about 20,000 light years in diameter .
The galaxy IC 231 is located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on December 29, 1893 .
