IC 232 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E in the constellation Cetus south of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 287 million light years from the Milky Way and about 110,000 light years in diameter .
The galaxies IC 231 and IC 237 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Lewis Swift on October 15, 1887 .
