NGC 883 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type E / S0 in the constellation Whale south of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 243 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 85,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky is u. a. the galaxy NGC 881 and IC 219 .
The object was on 10 September 1785 by the astronomer William Herschel using a 18.7-inch - telescope discovered.
