Mrk 590 ( Markarian 590 or also known as NGC 863 ) is a spiral galaxy with an active galaxy core in the constellation Whale . It is around 350 million light years away and is classified as a Seyfert 1 galaxy .
The object was discovered by William Herschel on January 6, 1785 . The entries NGC 866 and NGC 885 in the New General Catalog also refer to this galaxy.
