NGC 865 is a galaxy in the constellation Whale south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 139 million light years from the Milky Way and about 60,000 ly in diameter.
The object was on 9 September 1871 by the astronomer Edouard Stephan using a 80-cm - telescope discovered.
