NGC 853 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sm in the constellation Cetus south of the celestial equator . It is estimated to be 57 million light years from the Milky Way and has a disk diameter of about 32,000 ly.
The object was discovered by William Herschel on November 28, 1785 .
