NGC 870 is a compact galaxy in the constellation Aries on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 750 million light years away and about 65,000 light years in diameter.
The object was discovered on November 22, 1854 by RJ Mitchell , an assistant to William Parsons , using his 72-inch " Leviathan " reflector .
