NGC 864 is a barred spiral galaxy with extensive star formation from Hubble type SBc in the constellation Cetus south of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 72 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 95,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies IC 214 and IC 1786 .
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on October 25, 1785 .
