NGC 861 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sb in the constellation Triangulum at the northern sky . It is an estimated 372 million light years from the Milky Way and about 165,000 light years in diameter.
The object was discovered by Heinrich d'Arrest on September 18, 1865 .
