NGC 850 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 / a in the constellation Whale south of the celestial equator . It is estimated to be 366 million light years from the Milky Way and about 130,000 light years in diameter.
The object was on 6 January 1785 by the astronomer William Herschel using a 18.7-inch - telescope discovered.
