NGC 836 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 / a in the constellation Whale south of the celestial equator . It is estimated to be 194 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 70,000 ly. In the same area of the sky there are u. a. the galaxies NGC 837 , NGC 849 , NGC 858 .
The property was discovered by Frank Muller in 1886 .
