NGC 820 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sb in the constellation Aries on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 201 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 85,000 light-years across. The galaxy is the brightest member of the NGC 820 group ( LGG 48 ).
In the same area of the sky is u. a. the galaxy IC 1780 .
The Type IIn supernova SN 2002ea was observed here.
The object was by astronomer John Herschel using on September 7, 1828 a 18.7-inch - telescope discovered.
