NGC 798 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E6 in the constellation triangle. It is estimated to be 233 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 80,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 783 , NGC 785 , NGC 789 , NGC 793 , among others .
The object was discovered on December 10, 1871 by the French astronomer Édouard Jean-Marie Stephan .
