NGC 791 is an elliptical galaxy from the Hubble type E0 in the constellation fish on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 362 million light years from the Milky Way and about 170,000 light years in diameter .

In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 766 and IC 1772 .

The object was discovered on December 3, 1861 by the German-Danish astronomer Heinrich Louis d'Arrest .
