50 Cassiopeiae ( 50 Cas for short ) is a main sequence star in the constellation Cassiopeia . It has an apparent visual brightness of 3.95 mag, belongs to the spectral class A2 and is about 160 light years away from Earth .

John Herschel believed to see the star a faint nebula . Subsequently it was listed in the New General Catalog as NGC 771 .
