NGC 777 is an elliptical galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type E1 in the constellation Triangulum in the northern sky . It is an estimated 230 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 170,000 ly. The galaxy has an angular extent of 2.5 ′ × 2.0 ′ and an apparent magnitude of 11.5 mag.
Together with NGC 750 , NGC 751 , NGC 761 , NGC 783 , NGC 785 , NGC 789 , PGC 7304 , PGC 7545 , PGC 7674 , PGC 7967 , PGC 8215 and PGC 8393 , it forms the NGC 777 group .
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on September 12, 1784 .
