NGC 789 is a galaxy of Hubble type S? in the constellation Triangle in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 241 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 70,000 ly.

The object was discovered on August 24, 1865 by the German-Danish astronomer Heinrich Louis d'Arrest .
