NGC 801 is a spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble-type Sc in the constellation Andromeda in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 263 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 240,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 797 and IC 179 .
The object was discovered on September 20, 1885 by the American astronomer Lewis A. Swift .
