IC 179 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E2? in the constellation Andromeda in the northern sky . It is about 194 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a maximum extent of about 115,000 light years .

The object was discovered on June 28, 1890 by Lewis Swift .
