IC 168 is a spiral dwarf galaxy of the Hubble type Sb in the constellation Whale south of the celestial equator . It is an estimated 240 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 20,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 707 and IC 170 , among others .
The object was discovered on October 7, 1891 by the American astronomer Sherburne Wesley Burnham .
