IC 162 = Arp 228 is a lens-shaped galaxy of the Hubble type S0 in the constellation Pisces . It's about 234 million light years away and about 100,000 light years in diameter . Possibly it forms a bound pair with IC 161 , what is certain is that they belong to the same galaxy cluster . Halton Arp organized his catalog of unusual galaxies into groups according to purely morphological criteria. This galaxy belongs to the class galaxies with concentric rings .

The object was discovered on January 8, 1891 by Lewis Swift .
