IC 147 is a spiral galaxy of the Hubble type Sbc in the constellation Whale in the southern sky . It is about 673 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 155,000 light years .
The object was discovered on December 7, 1893 by Stéphane Javelle .
