IC 159 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SB (rs) b pec in the constellation Whale in the southern sky . It is around 176 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 85,000 light years .
The object was discovered on December 17, 1892 by Stéphane Javelle .
