NGC 507 is an elliptical galaxy of the Hubble type E / S0 on the northernmost edge of the constellation Pisces, about halfway between the star Mirach ( β Andromedae ) and the well-known triangular nebula ( M33 ). It is an estimated 227 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 165,000 light years in diameter. Together with NGC 508 , it forms the galaxy pair ARP 229 .

Halton Arp organized his catalog of unusual galaxies into groups according to purely morphological criteria. This galaxy belongs to the class galaxies with concentric rings .

In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 503 , NGC 504 , IC 1687 , IC 1690 .

The object was discovered on September 12, 1784 by the German-British astronomer Wilhelm Herschel .
