NGC 790 is a lenticular galaxy in the constellation Whale south of the ecliptic. It is estimated to be 239 million light years from the Milky Way and about 90,000 light years in diameter.
The galaxies NGC 779 and IC 183 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on September 10, 1785 by the German-British astronomer Friedrich Wilhelm Herschel .
