NGC 766 is an elliptical galaxy from the Hubble type E0 in the constellation fish on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 365 million light years from the Milky Way and about 215,000 light years across .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 791 and IC 182 .
The object was discovered on January 8, 1828 by the British astronomer John Frederick William Herschel .
