NGC 744 is an open star cluster of the Trumpler type IV2p in the constellation Perseus in the northern sky . It has an apparent magnitude of 7.9 mag and an apparent diameter of 11 arc minutes . The distance from the star cluster to Earth is estimated to be around 3,900 light years and its age to be 180 million years. It contains about 20 stars.
The object was discovered on November 28, 1831 by John Frederick William Herschel .
