NGC 720 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E5 in the constellation Cetus south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 78 million light years from the Milky Way and about 110,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky is u. a. the galaxy NGC 715 .
The object was discovered on October 3, 1785 by the British astronomer William Herschel .
