NGC 706 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sc in the constellation Pisces on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 225 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 125,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 676 and NGC 693 .
The Type Ia supernova SN 2001ed was observed here.
The object was discovered on September 30, 1786 by the German-British astronomer Wilhelm Herschel .
