NGC 682 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E / S0 in the constellation Cetus south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 250 million light years from the Milky Way and about 105,000 light years in diameter .
The object was discovered on December 30, 1785 by the German-British astronomer Wilhelm Herschel .
