NGC 673 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sc in the constellation Aries on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 235 million light years from the Milky Way and about 145,000 light years across.
The galaxy NGC 683 is located in the same area of the sky .
The supernovae SN 1996bo ( Type Ia ) and SN 2001fa (Type IIn) were observed here.
The object was discovered on September 4, 1786 by the German-British astronomer Wilhelm Herschel .
