NGC 684 = IC 165 is an edge-on spiral galaxy of the Hubble-type Sb in the constellation Triangle in the northern sky , approximately half a degree northeast of the interacting galaxies NGC 672 and IC 1727 . It is an estimated 163 million light years from the Milky Way and about 150,000 light years across. 
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 670 , NGC 672 , IC 1727 , IC 1731 .
The object was discovered by William Herschel on October 26, 1786 .
