IC 1727 is a bar-spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type SBm in the triangle constellation in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 21 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 30,000 light years in diameter . Together with NGC 672 , which is less than 90,000 light years away , it forms the gravitationally bound galaxy pair Holm 46 .
The galaxies NGC 670 , NGC 684 , IC 1731 are located in the same area of the sky .

The object was discovered by Isaac Roberts on November 29, 1896 .
