IC 1729 is an elliptical galaxy of the Hubble type E / S0 in the constellation Fornax in the southern sky . It is an estimated 66 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 30,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky is u. a. the galaxy NGC 689 .
The object was discovered by Lewis Swift on October 8, 1896 .
