The Alta Valle Antrona Nature Park is a nature reserve that was established by the Piedmont Region in December 2009 and covers an area of 7,444 hectares.
It is located in the Ossola Valley . The altitude ranges from 500 meters on the valley floor near Viganella to the 3,656 meters of Pizzo d'Andolla in the Antrona Schieranco area . It is a high mountain park with 4 artificial water basins and Lake Antrona, which was created in 1642 by a landslide. The natural environment is still intact, despite the mining activity over the past centuries and the existing hydroelectric plants.
Much of the park borders on Switzerland and its management is entrusted to the Alpe Veglia and Alpe Devero Nature Park .
