The Alpe Veglia and Alpe Devero Nature Park was established in 1995 and is located in the Ossola Valley in the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola province .

history

The troughs are of interest both mineralogically and geologically. They bear witness to slow geological processes: the ice age origin of the hollows is evidenced by some remains of very old glaciers , such as the Leone and Aurona glaciers, which belong to Alpe Veglia, or the “della Rossa” glacier on the Side of the Alpe Devero.

From a mineralogical point of view there are interesting minerals like asbecasite , cafarsite and cervandonite (Ce) .

The National Coordination Office for Parks and Nature Reserves confirmed to I. De Negri, Director of the Park Administration, and Bionda Radames, Park ranger, that “from a geological point of view, in this area after the completion of the Simplon Tunnel, the theory was confirmed that the structure of the Alps consists of ceilings lying one on top of the other, and that the Alpine building was created from them as a result of compression thrusts. These ceilings can be easily recognized by the color contrast of the different rock types on the mountain walls that surround the area. "
