Hillehorn
First ascent A. Seiler with A. Supersaxo 1890

The Hillehorn is a peak north of Monte Leone in the canton of Valais , Switzerland . It has a height of 3181  m above sea level. M. and is located a few meters away from the Switzerland-Italy border in the municipality of Grengiols . The Mättital Glacier flows into the Mättital on its northern flank . The Hille Glacier is located on the summit plateau to the east . The Hillehorn is a striking summit, which, together with the Bortelhorn, looks from central Valais towards Brig from its most beautiful side.

Mountain range

The mountain is located in the Monte-Leone-Blinnenhorn group of the Valais Alps, which is shown here separately as the Leone group .
Occasionally the Hillehorn is also described as a double-peaked rock massif , which is partly in the Italian province of Novara .

Ascent

It is documented that the Hillehorn was first climbed in 1890 by A. Seiler with A. Supersaxo.
Since the ascent is relatively demanding, it rarely happens. In summer you usually first go to Punta Mottiscia , which you can reach from Bocca Mottiscia ( 2924  m ) over the ridge. The Bocca Mottiscia is obtained from the north over the Steinungletscher or from the south (without
contact with the glacier). From Punta Mottiscia you bypass the Hillehorn to the east and then climb over the exposed north ridge. In winter, the steep couloir that leads from the north into the saddle between Hillehorn and Punta Mottiscia is occasionally climbed and skied on skis.
