NGC 712 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 in the constellation Andromeda in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 244 million light years from the Milky Way and about 70,000 light years in diameter . The galaxy is considered a member of the Abell 262 galaxy group .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 703 , NGC 709 , NGC 714 , NGC 717 .
The object was discovered in October 1828 by the British astronomer John Frederick William Herschel .
