NGC 734 is a lenticular galaxy in the constellation Whale , approximately 538 million light-years from the Milky Way .
It was discovered on November 9, 1885 by the American astronomer Francis Preserved Leavenworth and described somewhat imprecisely, probably at that time PGC 170023 was observed. The galaxy used to be confused with PGC 8064.
